How To Get Rid Of Worm Casts

How To Get Rid Of Worm Casts

You will need:

- Cultural soil amendment (e.g Nutriflo Casting)

- Applicator (knapsack/boom sprayer)

- Correct PPE (overalls, rubber boots, chemical resistant gloves & face shield)

What Are Worm Casts?

A worm cast is a structured mound of soil, mud and sand which are ejected on the surface after it has passed through the worms body. Earthworms in gardens are generally beneficial, aiding the recycling of nutrients and helping improve the structure of the soil.

Why Are Worm Casts A Problem?

Having grass covered in worm casts can be a problem for a number of reasons. Formal lawns such as wedding venues or turf growers do not want too many worm casts as these can turn the grass muddy and are unsightly. Sports turf such as golf courses and bowling greens find worm casts particularly troublesome as it affects the play of the sport.

The Solution:

We recommend using a product called NutriFlo Casting to reduce and eliminate worm casts. Nutriflo Casting is a non-pesticidal, plant nutrient based liquid that improves turf health and also alters the local soil surface environment in areas facing the negative consequences from excessive surface casting. It has been designed to irritate & deter worms by pushing them lower into the soil structure. Casting is a cultural soil amendment and not a fertiliser. It can be used on grass, lawns, new grass, paddocks, pasture and sports turf.

Control

We advise using a cultural soil amendment product such as Nutriflo Casting. This product is non-pesticidal which means it does not kill the earthworms that cause worm casts- it only deters them away. It is also ideal for use in the winter months.
